We preserve the precious cultural patrimony of hand-embroidery which risks disappearing with the last generation of embroiderers in Italy, creating an innovative and scalable model of de-localized manufacturing to generate new qualified work opportunities for unemployed women in Italy.

Di Pasquale Guthmann designs and commercializes unique, sustainable lifestyle products, handmade for the global luxury market, preserving the precious female heritage of hand embroidery in Italy, through an innovative model to enable a virtual factory, integrating training, production collaboration, online logistic and systems interoperability. 

The remote-working model allows for women to work throughout the whole territory, organizing their time and work, supported and protected by technology, including software applications with augmented reality to learn, monitor and correct. The project includes systems to ensure traceability and transparency throughout the value chain.

Challenges

Italian high quality craftsmanship is the maximum expression of true luxury.
In 2017, small artisanal enterprises have generated 43 bln Euro of turnover.
However, the lack of access to international markets and of generational change is leading to the extinction of some artisanal traditions. Among these is the art of hand embroidery which was an important economic resource for women in the South, where the female unemployment rate is the highest in Europe with 70%**.

Solutions

We revitalize and make hand embroidery scalable, by opening it to the global luxury market and by creating an innovative virtual factory, which enables women to work from home, managing their time autonomously, supported by advanced technology enhancing an efficient, transparent and sustainable process.

A) HOME, YACHTING, HOTEL/RESORT: home - and interior linens, completely customized products; 
B) RESORT WEAR: Dresses and accessories for the luxury vacation (kaftans, kimonos, slippers, bags, etc). 
Target: 
Global UHNWI market with a focus on the US, Europe, Middle East. 
Discerning clients who appreciate the authentic Handmade in Italy. 
Distribution:
A) B2C: direct-to-consumers through temporary shops (Pop-ups), own online channel, trunk shows and events in luxury hotels and strategic locations
B) B2B: through luxury online retail platforms (Moda Operandi, Aerin, Farfetch, Net-à-Porter); 
C) Collaborations with interior designers, select stockists, luxury hotels and resorts. 

Long term impact

We train and integrate Italian, refugee, immigrant and women in fragile conditions, creating dignifying work opportunities, projected towards a future where the place of work becomes irrelevant.
Our model fosters constant professional growth based on their own talent and the opportunity to develop the skills needed to generate a sustainable and enduring autonomy, in a condition of transparency and psycho-physical well-being.  
In the next 4 years, we want to create work for 100 women, including embroiderers, sewers and other professionals. The social impact is monitored and measured over time through KPIs pre-defined by external experts.
